FAQ - 💬

❓ Where do I plant Iberis sempervirens?

👉 Iberis sempervirens makes an effective edging for a sunny border. Noteworthy CharacteristicsThis is a very floriferous, trouble-free ground cover for a sunny site. CareGrow in average but well-drained soil in full sun. After flowering, lightly shear the plants to keep them neat and bushy.

❓ Should I deadhead my candytuft?

👉 Standing 10 inches tall, 'Purple Rain' candytuft is also a pollinator, attracting bees and butterflies to the garden. Deadhead this variety of candytuft and new flowers will grow throughout its bloom time, which is summertime.

❓ Is candytuft the same as alyssum?

👉 Candytuft seems to tolerate heat better than Alyssum, which can wilt easily if you have hot, sunny days in the latter part of Spring. I planted our Candytuft last Spring, and even during the hottest parts of the Summer months the plants continued looking almost perfect.

❓ Is candytuft the same as phlox?

👉 Candytuft (Iberis sempervirens) is another low-growing plant that can be used the same way as ground Phlox in the garden. The plant has tight round clusters of bright white four-petal flowers that bloom in early spring as Phlox does. In fact we have put them side by side when edging a flower garden.

❓ What does candytuft look like in winter?

👉 Hues of brown and gray predominate in the winter garden, so a peek of green now and then is most welcome. Evergreen candytuft is a perennial — technically a woody subshrub — that maintains its neat, low mound of dark, glossy green foliage throughout the year.

❓ What to do with candytuft after it blooms?

👉 Once blooms of the candytuft flower are spent, cut the entire candytuft plant back to ground level to avoid woodiness of the stems. This should be done at least every other year to prevent this short, blooming beauty from becoming too tall with spindly growth.

❓ Does evergreen candytuft spread?

👉 Iberis have a spreading, low growing habit with an average height of 6 – 8 inches and a typical spread 12 – 35 inches. Proper spacing (12 – 18 inches) between plants increases air circulation; keeping leaves dry and helping to prevent the spread of diseases.

❓ Can candytuft survive a freeze?

👉 Candytuft produces mounds of abundant blooms covering the entire foliage. TEMPERATURE ZONE 7 to 10 These are hardy down to minus 0F when planted in the ground. WINTER DORMANCY Simply leave plants alone in autumn and do not prune back to the ground. Remove any damaged foliage in spring.

👉 Evergreen candytuft flowers turn a delicate pink as they fade. Other species of Iberis and some varieties of evergreen candytuft also flower in purple, red, and pink. After flowering, the plants produce small ovate pods, each containing two winged seeds.

👉 (='Schneeflocke') Evergreen Candytuft is a spring blooming favourite, often seen cascading over rocks and walls, or used as a groundcover. The glossy, evergreen foliage forms a compact mound.
