Pawpaws wachsen nur im südlichen Michigan. Die 3 bis 6 Zoll langen Früchte reifen im Oktober und haben eine puddingähnliche Konsistenz und einen Geschmack wie Banane. Die Früchte werden geerntet, bevor sie von der Pflanze abfallen.

Die Früchte können in einer einzigen Schicht unter kühlen Bedingungen gelagert werden. Sie können auch schnell eingefroren sein, aber beim Auftauen werden sie weich sein. Pawpaw wird für 2 oder 3 Wochen im Kühlschrank aufbewahrt. Sie werden oft mit Sahne und Zucker gegessen.
