Radicchio ist ein Salatgrün, ähnlich dem Belgischen Endivien- oder Weißwurzel-Chicorée, mit der Ausnahme, dass die Blätter eine rötliche, weinrote Farbe mit weißen Mittelrippen haben.

Der Kopf sollte fest und fest sein und in der Regel spitz sein, wenn er gekauft wird. Einige werden je nach Sorte abgerundet. Ideale Köpfe werden etwas kleiner als Kopfsalat sein. Im Gemüsefach können die Blätter bis zu zwei Wochen frisch bleiben.
